Leading a Learning Community
I'm happy to facilitate professional development to both Stavely and LRSD staff. I have presented at MFWHSR, ISC and PD days as well. My Master's degree in Curriculum and Assessment has fostered a deep understanding of curriculum across many subject areas and is exemplified through balanced assessment planning.
Achievement of this competency is demonstrated by indicators such as:
- Fostering in the school community equality and respect with regard to rights as provided for in the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
- Creating an inclusive learning environment in which diversity is embraced, a sense of belonging is emphasized, and all students and staff are welcomed, cared for, respected and safe;
- Developing a shared responsibility for the success of all students;
- Cultivating a culture of high expectations for all students and staff;
- Creating meaningful, collaborative learning opportunities for teachers and support staff;
- Establishing opportunities and expectations for the positive involvement of parents/guardians in supporting student learning;
- Creating an environment for the safe and ethical use of technology;
- Collaborating with community service agencies to provide wrap-around supports for all students who may require them, including those with mental health needs; and
- Recognizing student and staff accomplishments.
I believe I have demonstrated achievement of this competency by:
- 2022-present - Alberta Assessment Consortium contracted facilitator - I have facilitated courses on 4-Step Process of Assessment, Stop Summatively Assessing Everything, 25% Rule of Assessment and also to small, in-person groups throughout southern Alberta;
- 2022 academic year - our Grade 6 PAT results were outstanding, with an average of 40% of our students reaching the standard of excellence;
- creating inclusive learning environments, embracing (and teaching about) diversity and fostering a sense of belonging through ongoing discussions with students families and staff;
- completing and implementing with excellence the Jigsaw Learning Collaborative Response framework;
- facilitating PD in Stavely School and to LRSD new teachers through 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Core 1 and Core 2 Training, Lighthouse Team Training;
- providing staff with current pedagogy, assessment, learning support, mental health documents;
- attending PD on implementation of new K-3 curriculum as well as ensuring my staff have received sufficient PD for implementation;
- engaged in dialogue regarding assessment with staff, students and parents;
- ensure there is adequate supervision of all staff by blocking time throughout the week, each day, to be in hallways, classrooms, conference rooms;
- congratulations to Julaine Guitton (see photo below), winner of ATA 2021 Indigenous Education Award;
- introducing staff celebrations to begin our staff meetings;
- sound evaluation plans, in consultation with both LRSD Assistant Superintendent and ATA, for staff on evaluation;
- weekly Learning Support Team meetings with LST and FSL to ensure all students' needs are addressed and strategies are in place for success for all learners;
- monthly Learning Support meetings with staff for all learners;
- individual meetings with parents to create IPPs and behaviour support plans as necessary;
- as an avid consumer of technology, I ensure my staff have access to resources to further their programming, including myblueprint, Freshgrade etc.
- work in close conjunction with the Stavely Library Board, as we share the facility;
- access Stavely resources to further all of our programming (examples would include Passion Projects, Christmas Concert, Remembrance Day Ceremony, bike parade, Terry Fox Run, bird release, Jr. ATB, extra-curricular sports etc.).
Leadership Wildly Important Goal
